In an earlier post, Julia mentioned a video that was show at the Democractic National Convention floor Tuesday night, offering an unusually blunt take on the role of government in American life: “Government, is the only thing that we all belong to.”
Well, as of Wednesday morning, Buzzfeed is reporting that the Democrats are disavowing the video. So… even though this video was “completely unaffiliated with the Obama campaign or the Democratic National Committee[,]” and was “neither an OFA nor a DNC video[,]” it was still approved for display at Democractic National Convention by the Democratic National Committee in order to promote the candidate being run by the Obama for America team.
If this had been a live speech, by a third-tier speaker, filling in the off-hours of the convention, I’d be willing to buy the idea that he or she had simply gone “off script” and jumped the teleprompter… but, no, you don’t get to claim that a preproduced video that opened your convention was “unaffiliated with the … campaign.” Either your campaign dropped the ball and didn’t bother to screen the damn thing (“We’re incompetent! Vote for us!”) or your campaign did approve of it and its message (“We’re All Socialists Now!“).
Neither option sends a tingle down my leg.
Edit to Add: From the folks at RevealPolitics, via the PJ Tattler, we get a first hand look at how the actual convention goers responded to the video that the Democratic National Committee wants to distance itself from. They have learned to love Big Brother.
