Today is our Helm’s Deep

November 6, 2012 by Julia

“Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake! Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn! Forth, Eorlingas!”

Yes, yes, I understand the liberties Peter Jackson took with Helm’s Deep, but I like it better than in the book, so deal with it.  Jackson turned Helm’s Deep into a meditation on the sense of futility in doing Good in the face of so much danger–but armed with faith and the knowledge that you’re doing the right thing in the end, the day can still be yours.  (maybe inadvertantly, Jackson hit on an even greater Christian message than Tolkien put in Two Towers in the first place)

Today is our Helm’s Deep.  The GOP, conservatives, and our libertarian allies have been beset for four years with intrusive government, ham-handed manipulation of the financial sector, hand-outs of our tax money to Obama’s friends, naive and dangerous foreign policies that have literally killed people, a re-objectification of women as talking sex organs . . . the day is dark.  The prospect of four more years hangs over our heads as the Uruk-hai and OWS mobs bang on the gates.

Théoden didn’t know Gandalf was coming–he rode out against the horde because he would not go down cowering in the great Hornburg.  So too must those of us in so-called solid blue states get out and vote anyway!  Let them know we’re here!  The Left, with their politics of envy and division, will not silence us!  Do your part to help even if it seems futile.

Because in the end, Gandalf and the Rohirrim are coming.  We’ve fought for months–years!–against the statist tide, and this is finally the day we’ve been waiting for.  Look to the east at 7:00 p.m. EST, when the polls close in Virginia.  Help is on its way, but only if we get out and vote!  It doesn’t matter if you’re in a red state, blue state, or battleground state–YOU MUST VOTE if we have any hope of victory.

Forth, Americans!  VOTE ROMNEY/RYAN!

  1. Ish says:

“A shadow passed over Saruman’s face; then it went deathly white. Before he could conceal it, they saw through the mask the anguish of a mind in doubt, loathing to stay and dreading to leave its refuge. For a second, he hesitated, and no one breathed. Then he spoke, and his voice was shrill and cold. Pride and hate were conquering him.”

  2. […] a somewhat ironic note, I am too wound up to sleep and Encore is playing Return of the King.  I turned it on just in time […]
